The City of Sydney's Chinese New Year Festival Dragon Boat Races are the biggest boat races in the southern hemisphere. It is an exciting event with colourful 12-metre long boats decorated with the head and tail features of the mythical dragon. Each boat seats up to 20 people including a person to steer the boat and a drummer to set the rowing rhythmn. Before the races, the dragon boats will go through an 'eye-dotting' ceremony which is supposed to “awaken” the dragons. This eye-dotting ceremony and the blessing of the waters will be held before the first race on Saturday at 9am.Come and be part of this exciting day and cheer on the participants!
