LAN Brazilian Festa & Starlight Cinema (North Sydney) - 3rd of March 2012

Come to the LAN Brazilian Festa and Starlight Cinema event this Saturday, 3rd of March 2012 and have twice the fun on the one ticket! Experience the vibrant and colourful Brazilian culture with live music, workshops, Latino food and talks. Enjoy the sounds of the Brazilian Bossa Nova, Chorinho, Capoeira and a Brazilian show! Then at sundown, watch the critically-acclaimed 'Waste Land'. This movie was filmed over nearly three years, as renowned artist Vik Muniz journeys from his home in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores” - self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. The film shows the transformative power of art and the strength of human spirit.

The LAN Brazilian Festa and Starlight Cinema event is family-friendly and is suitable for kids too. There's face painting, games, cooking classes, Frescoball and Football clinics. And while 'Waste Land' is being screened outside, the kids will be entertained by the animated smash-hit family movie, 'Rio' indoors. The movie 'Rio' is about Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg), a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota who meets the fiercely independent Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway) on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro. This movie is made by the same people who created Ice Age.

Due to the wet weather, oval activities such as the Bossa Nova, Dance, workshops, talks and Carnaval Parade have been cancelled but other activities are still on. Also, the start time for the event is now later at 6.30pm instead of 4pm.

VENUE: North Sydney Oval, Miller Street, North Sydney. The Oval is located on the east side of Miller Street between Ridge and Carlow Streets. It is adjacent to St Leonards Park. North Sydney is part of Lower North Shore and is located 3 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD.

GETTING THERE: The best way to get there is to catch a train and alight at the North Sydney train station. The Sydney Oval is about a 10 minute walk from the station. For bus services, call the Transport Infoline on 131 500 or check their website on www.131500.com.au. If driving there, parking is available on Miller Street or at the Ridge Street Car Park on St James Place off Ridge Street (between Miller and West Streets). Parking charges apply at the Car Park during weekdays.
